Austenite stainless steel is the one of the most widely used of stainless steel in corrosion resistant steel. Of which 304 stainless steel is the most representative, is a widely used nickel chromium stainless steel. It has good mechanical properties, easy to be mechanical processing, stamping and welding. In the oxidizing environment it have excellent corrosion resistance and good heat resistance performance. But it is particular sensitive to the medium containing chloride (Cl -) of solution, prone to corrosion. To improve its resistance to chlorine ion corrosion performance, use the surface modification of ultrafine SiC powder  join the 304 stainless steel substrate, The results showed that 304 stainless steel adding ultrafine sic powder own superior resistance to salt fog corrosion performance, when the content of SiC powder was 0.2%, the salt fog corrosion rate decreased about 8.4%, and the electrochemical corrosion tendency is decreased obviously.



Ultrafine SiC powder silicon carbide has high hardness, high temperature strength, good creep resistance, resistance to chemical corrosion, good oxidation resistance, small thermal expansion coefficient and high thermal conductivity and other excellent properties, is an ideal reinforcing. At present, at home and abroad research and application the ultrafine SiC powder reinforced metal matrix composites are very active, after adding ultrafine SiC powder the strength and hardness of 304 stainless steel can be obviously improved.
