Aluminum is often used as a fuel in energetic formulations, and is widely used in propellants, explosives and pyrotechnic formulations. The heat of combustion of boron is almost twice that of aluminum and is considered to be the best substitute for aluminum.
Adding a small amount of boron powder to the aluminum-containing fuel air explosive can increase the overall energy level of the explosive.
Nano boron powder is a high-energy combustion component.
