Silver has the characteristics of high electrical conductivity, excellent physical and chemical properties, acceptable price and its oxides also have electrical conductivity and is widely used as a conductive filler. The conductive silver paste is developing in the direction of simpler process, stronger performance, higher reliability and lower cost. At present, the conductive phase in the conductive silver paste is mainly micron or submicron silver powder.

As a conductive functional phase, silver powder can be combined with a bonding phase to produce high-temperature sintered conductor materials (with inorganic glass and oxide as bonding phases) and blended polymer conductor materials (with organic polymers as bonding phases). Blended polymer conductor materials are divided into conductive coatings, conductive pastes and conductive adhesives. By sintering, drying or curing, a conductive film layer, circuit is formed or conductive bonding is realized. Silver powder is used because silver has the best electrical and thermal conductivity, its chemical properties are relatively stable at room temperature, and silver is the cheapest metal that does not oxidize at high temperatures.
